I have never been a tremendous fan of Jim Carrey movies, so when The Truman Expose came out, I expeditiously wrote it off as not one I was going to hasten out to peep. I shouldn’t have. Fortunately, I got the chance to gaze it at a friend’s house, and I can honestly say that it left me speechless and amazed at the brilliance of the film. First of all, Jim Carrey excells in this role. I procure him to be a very comic man in staunch life, but his wacky roles in previous movies (Ace Ventura, Slow & Dumber…you know them) don’t appeal to me at all. BUT, in this role, he shows that he is plan more than a go-to weirdo or funnyman. The emotion and the vulnerability he brings to the naive Truman Burbank only improves as the movie goes on. Watching this man crack as the only world he knows begins to slowly betray him and the intensity of his attempts to leer what else is beyond his hidden cage is consuming in a diagram that few movies can enlighten successfully.

This movie is more than fair about watching Truman Burbank fetch out the truth of his televised life, but it is a lovely portrayal of humanity. Truman’s world was created by Christof (the always incredible Ed Harris) to be what is considered “perfection.” Christof is like God in the Seahaven world. He makes every choice for the world, including the weather and even Truman’s fears…but Christof cannot change the one thing that noone can manipulate–Truman’s thoughts. Truman is given the perfect wife, a brotherly bestfriend, a genuine job, and a life in a world that exists without hurt, sadness, or execrable. But the world is a cage. The movie shows that stability is not perfection, ignorance is not bliss, and a life without ALL emotions–including sadness, apprehension, and pain–could never exist. Even without smart that he is trapped, Truman feels the need to hasten his “perfect” life and to perceive what else there is beyond the utopia that is Seahaven Island. It is a perfect prove of our quest for the unknown, unsatisfaction with objective mundane existence, and our interest in what normality really is.

When you seek this movie, you will become fair like the viewers in the movie who are watching Truman. You will root for him, roar for him, and laugh with (or at) him. His is truly a reality reveal that I hope that never is created for loyal…but we ARE humans, so who knows how we’ll try to play God next…

P.S. The accept to the movie is absolutely fine.

Before the absurd reality shows took the airwaves by storm, director Peter Weir and writer Andrew Niccol imagined the world of Truman Burbank (Jim Carrey) . Adopted and placed in a soundstage originate to resemble a exiguous American town Seahaven, Truman discovers that his life is nothing more than a TV exhibit plump of product placement. Truman discovers his friends, family and the world he lives in is nothing more than a gain. The first clue occurs when a flood light archaic to illuminate the massive soundstage where Truman lives falls into the middle of the street. When Truman wants to leave the puny town he lives in and go to Fiji the TV display that is when his life begins to tumble apart. Although Weir didn’t write the film it deals with a subject popular to his films; an individual who literally is an outsider in his hold world. It’s also about deception. Truman like most of Weir’s protagonist discovers a web of deceit that corrupts his have world.

A radiant film that finds Weir (”Observe”, “The Year of Living Dangerously”, “Picnic At Hanging Rock”) in top accomplish, it’s fabulous that this Oscar nominated film didn’t win up Best Characterize, Best Actor, Best Writer and Best Director it was that splendid. Instead, the Academy rewarded “The Truman Display” like it does any film made by a Hollywood outsider-with a few awards recognizing the brilliance of the film and then settling into sublime mediocrity for the rest of the awards. There are clever visual references to Patrick MacGoohan’s “The Prisoner” TV series woven into the visual motif of the film.

Featuring a elegant anamorphic transfer, “The Truman Exhibit” looks nearly perfect. Paramount has done a terrific job with this unique edition. Colors are vibrant and intelligent and the image quality is amazingly involving and crystal positive. The 5.1 sound mix makes nice exhaust of the format with imaging placed around the speakers.

We acquire a two share documentary that can either be played separately or as one. Weir, Carrey, Lara Linney and Noah Emmerich appear in interviews in the documentary. Curiously, the only person missing is writer Andrew Niccol. I’m not distinct why Niccol doesn’t appear in the film (perhaps he wasn’t overjoyed with some of the changes that Weir did but they work brilliantly) . The fact that it closely resembles elements from Philip K. Dick’s “Time Out of Joint” is also not addressed as well. The two section documentary runs about 40 minutes. The first fragment of the documentary focuses on the genesis of the film and some of the changes that occurred before the film was shot. The second piece of the film focuses on pre-production through distinguished reception. This includes information on the wealthy beach community Seaside, Florida that DIDN’T want them to shoot there.

We also bag four deleted/extended scenes that provide additional information and background on the account. While they aren’t famous, they are fine engrossing to witness. There’s also modern theatrical trailers, TV spots and previews for other Paramount releases.

A terrific film that was overlooked at Oscar time for far lesser films, “The Truman Present” catches Weir and his collaborators in top produce. It’s ironic that 10 years later the “reality note” world that was predicted came apt (although not on this scale) . The transfer looks terrific and the extras are certainly respectable to the previous release on DVD. Definitely worth purchasing if you are a fan of Weir’s work or fair this movie!

This review has been updated on Sept. 18. I received my Sherlock Holmes location from MPI today and as I hoped, it looks and sounds Wonderful! I already have watched a lot from the position. You won’t be disappointed! I have been sending e-mails for a few years now to MPI Home Video, asking that they remaster this series and gain it available on DVD. I am so joyful they finally have. Two episodes in their new release of “The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes,” notably “The Dancing Men” and “The Naval Treaty,” had audio problems in some of the soundtrack music. They have remastered this series from the novel Granada tapes in England. This resulted in an awesome relate and sound quality. Thank you MPI! What more can be said about Jeremy Brett? Many people, including myself, judge him to be the definitive Sherlock Holmes. His manner, gestures and overall portrayal shows us clearly that he read Conan Doyle and became very well acquainted with his alter ego. The stories are tall and this series had that fortunate combination of tremendous acting, writing, music, and production value. How nice to be able to maintain the entire series in one status. For twelve discs, including bonuses, the imprint is handsome. If you like this series or simply delight in Jeremy Brett, you should pick this residence.

To a spacious number of Sherlockians–or Holmesians, if you prefer–Jeremy Brett’s performance as the world’s first consulting detective was the definitive portrayal. And while this series has its flaws and deviations from the unique text, it is level-headed arguably the best filmic representation available.

I have seen the unique MPI releases, as well as a Japanese/Chinese collection, and without quiz, this current site features the best record and sound quality. (Perhaps the PAL version released a couple years earlier in the UK is slightly top-notch, but I doubt anyone could really gawk the inequity.) The uniform menu screens and the tantalizing create of the packaging are also an improvement upon previous releases.

My complaints are few and rather inconsequential, but they are as follows:

Buy,Download, Or Stream Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Granada Television Series! Click Here

1) There are no additional special features, but in fact *fewer* special features than the new DVD releases.

2) The pictures on the faces of the DVDs were chosen somewhat haphazardly, e.g. Hardwicke is featured on Disc 1 where surely Burke belongs. And

3) as to the series itself, during the second half of its race, more and more stories were merely “based” on Conan Doyle’s work, and with questionable results. “The Last Vampyre” is a prime example.

In short, if you already occupy the unusual DVD releases and you are glad with that record quality, you may want to pass on purchasing this status. For all other admirers of the series, this is a must have.

Kind of surprising that such a common and captivating film, with a edifying cast, clever fable and fun effects, is givin such a bad transfer. It seems to be from the frail laser disc. The recount is flat and gloomy and to me looks considerable like the VHS copy I had already owend. Again, a really fun though-provoking film, but don’t inquire normal DVD quality on this one.

Me and my brother were flipping through the TV channels, and nothing was on, I mean nothing. Anyway we got to the Movie Channel (STAR Movies) and saw what looked like the opening credits, and then enormous blue words came across the hide reading “F/X.” So we watched it, saw if it was any excellent. Let me say we were pleasing surprised! It was heavenly definite that it was shot on a grievous budget. That made me like it all the more! Becuase you usually procure a distinguished rich director and writers to establish together a capable action/suspense movie. But those movies, sience the director has alot of money he fair figures he’ll blow the hell out of everything. It gets handsome annoying. But that is what I treasure about this movie. Sense they didn’t have a lot of money they kept the movie excellent was the writing and directing. Dispite the name (F/X) it is not what the movie reliys on. It relies on a sparkling space and even smarter dwelling twists. You never know who the villian is. Plus the well mantled suspense is a plus. I cant say the biggest allotment of the location, but I can sya what it starts with. This aussie dude who makes special FX for movies (hense the name) is assigned to stage an assination on a gang member (but not really ruin him, unbiased invent it recognize like he got killed with his special do tricks. But after that it fair takes so many turns, it makes it into a improbable whodunit. I reccomend this for anyone who enjoys a well written and directed whodunit that will sustain you thinking and guesing till the last bullet is shot.

Warner Bros. has outdone themselves to bring one of the finest classics in their library to DVD. This transfer of MILDRED PIERCE is so perfect, so engrossing, certain & glistening, it’s almost like watching a different film. Gone are the spots and glitches.

The image is unexcited and elegant, lusciously capturing Ernest Haller’s masterful cinematography. The sound is incredible too, for a film of this vintage.

The film itself is Joan Crawford’s finest hour, and one of the best film noir ever turned out by Hollywood. It’s virtues are legendary by now, and I need not report them here. This is simply a must have for even a casual film buff. A stylish and knowing drama which is a testament to the dozens of talents that brought it to the veil.

If a phenomenal transfer if an essetial classic wasn’t enough, Warners has given us a B side with a feature length documentary entitled JOAN CRAWFORD: THE ULTIMATE MOVIE STAR. This is an friendly program that was made for the Turner Classic Movies channel a few months ago, and makes its home video debut here. With an incredible array of racy interviews, rare film clips, and sumptuous photographs, the indicate takes the gloves off and presents both sides of the Crawford persona. Her astonishing drive for stardom and perfection, her modern status in the hollywood pantheon, as well as the afflict her reptutation has suffered due to the revelations made by her daughter Christina who is one of the many interviewed to picture stories about the right Joan Crawford. Others who knew Crawford wisely counter the daughter’s words, with their believe perceptions, leaving the viewer the opportunity to reflect for themselves what they reflect of Joan Crawford. A very well-researched and provocative film indeed.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Mildred Pierce! Click Here

Now, they’re not done… Warners has also included 9 trailers, including all of Joan’s WB films made from MILDRED through THIS WOMAN IS Risky in 1952. This special feature alone is worth the label of the disc.

It’s really a field day for the film buff to bag an amazingly restored DVD of one of the greatest films of hollywood’s heyday, a righteous feature documentary, and a host of other extras, for a list effect of $20. My hat’s off to the tall folks at Warner Bros. home video.

Film Noir never had it so good: “Mildred Pierce” combines the toughness of the Cain novel; a gutsy cast delivering knock-out performances; and at the center of it all one of cinema’s titanic hard-shell dames, Joan Crawford.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Mildred Pierce! Click Here

Do not be misled into thinking this is a “women’s relate” typical of the 1940s. Given that the account concerns a woman who must procure her beget plan after a bitter divorce, it may have a special appeal for women as a group–but let’s face it, Joan Crawford ain’t your average wife and mother, and while Mildred Pierce may win our sympathies she ain’t exactly a “itsy-bitsy woman” stereotype herself.

As illustrious, the set revolves around Mildred/Joan’s need to form her map in the world–but more to the point, her need to endow her daughters, particularly eldest daughter Veda, with all the best that money can take. (Never mind, of course, that Veda is clearly a man-hungry, social-climbing small serpent dripping poison from both fangs.) And if that entails kicking out the husband, playing house with a society heel, or even… impartial possibly… abolish… well, then so be it. The cinematography is light-and-shadow film noir classic; the production values are first rate throughout; and Joan and company recount enough double-dealing spirit to perform “Mildred Pierce” a vastly attractive stir. And if you ever wondered what made Crawford one of the mountainous stars of her era… Mildred Pierce will reveal ya and how!

Movie Title: The Monkees - Head

The Monkees - Head is available for streaming or downloading.

Click Here to Stream or Download The Monkees - Head

When this film was made the career of the Monkees was already in decline as their show had been cancelled and their music was no longer charting (’Porpoise Song’ from the “Head” soundtrack got up to number 62 on Billboard). The group was tired of their squeaky clean image as the ‘Pre-Fab Four’, and they just wanted out. This film was conceived in an effort to reach out to more adult audiences, and to hasten their departure from the scenes as the prototype MTV ‘boy band’.

The film itself is a quirky, stream of consciousness movie that treads the line between anti-war statement film to over the top comedy in scenes where, for instance, they have to frolic on the scalp of Victor Mature (in a sequence known as ‘dandruff’) and are subsequently sucked into a giant vacuum cleaner by Victor Mature’s hairdresser. There is no plot as such, but there is some redeeming social commentary such as when Frank Zappa tells Davy that he needs to work on his music more (but compliments his dancing, done with Toni Basil). At the end of the scene Frank Zappa’s cow offers her opinion of the Monkees, in a scene that must be my favorite of the movie.

Some of the music is great, with the Nesmith tune ‘Circle Sky’ getting top mention. It’s a great song, filmed live in a scene designed to show how the boys had been devoured by their public image. Other musical numbers are a bit lacking, particularly ‘Daddy’s Song’ and ‘As We Go Along.’

Highlights in the film are in the cameos. Not only do Toni Basil and Frank Zappa put in appearances, so do boxer Sonny Liston (who fights Davy), Terry Garr (who pleads to have poison sucked from her finger), Annette Funicello (who pleads tearfully with Davy in a love interest scene), and Jack Nicholson and Dennis Hopper in a cantina scene. Most peculiar of all credits are for writers and producers, namely longtime Monkees collaborator Bob Rafelson, and Jack Nicholson, who later collaborated on “Five Easy Pieces” and “The Postman Always Rings Twice”, among other projects.

There are also extras consisting of theatrical trailers, including one in Portuguese, and television ads for the film. The film was essentially not promoted, certainly didn’t connect with the typical Monkee demographic, and was a disaster at the box office. This didn’t trouble the band, as it gave them a clear path out, with Peter quitting very shortly after the movie was released. This is as unlike the Monkees TV show as can be imagined, and I recommend it for anyone looking for a trippy sixties flashback stranger than most any other. I was fortunate enough to see this in a theater, and have loved it ever since. I recommend the film to people who know about the Monkees or just think they do. I guarantee that it will shatter your preconceived notions of the band.

Like all cult movies, “Head” contains unusual, unorthodox - even beautiful - moments interspersed with material that simply does not work. With “Head,” the Monkees - the most maligned pop rock group of the 1960s - created some of the very best and biting sequences that have ever appeared in a rock movie. It’s not as consistently brilliant as “A Hard Day’s Night,” “Almost Famous,” or “This is Spinal Tap,” but it’s one of the very best rock films ever made.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Monkees - Head! Click Here

Virtually everyone knows that the Monkees were American TV’s attempt to harness some of the Beatles’ electricity. Unfortunately for the Monkees, their TV debut almost perfectly coincided with “serious” rock criticism, which brutally mocked them as prefabricated, defamed them as hoaxes, and ridiculed their brand of Beach Boys-meet-British Invasion sound. Persecuted beyond belief, the Monkees were denied anything resembling hip status and their resentment of this treatment influenced the insights the band (along with Jack Nicholson) contributed to the screenplay.

In one memorable sequence, the Monkees are mobbed onstage after performing a song. They’re ripped to pieces by their adoring fans, revealing they aren’t human at all but merely robotic mannequins. In another, they change the lyrics to their TV theme song to admit they are nothing but soulless fakes. And, in sequences framing the beginning and end of the film, we have simulated suicides. All of this is accompanied by some of the most accomplished psychedelic pop any mainstream rock band recorded in the hippie era. (It’s very fitting that “The Porpoise Song,” which plays over the credits here, was resurrected in the similarly disturbing film “Vanilla Sky.”) This is nightmarish, haunting material unlike that of any other rock film of the 1960s. To the Monkees, the last 1960s psychedelic revolution wasn’t the dawn of Aquarius; it was Armeggedon.

Buy,Download, Or Stream The Monkees - Head! Click Here

Unfortunately, there are also a lot of injokes, and some hammy slapstick that would not have been out of place in the Monkees TV series. This ruined the pace of the film, and detracted from the Monkees’ message. The DVD version of the film suffers further in not being widescreen, and requires minor restoration beyond what was done for the VHS release a few years ago.

This isn’t a film for everyone. If you like to believe that rock and roll can change the world (or if rock is now totally irrelevant to you), you won’t like this film. If, on the other hand, you love rock with a passion and aren’t afraid to question the foundations of many of your rock beliefs, you will find many segments of this film rewarding.

Muhammad Ali was recently named the “Sportsman of the Century” by Sports Illustrated magazine. “Muhammad Ali Through The Eyes of the World,” which comes out on January 29th, tells the astonishing tale of this immense athlete, political figure, and celebrity and you can easily recognize why Ali might have been chosen for this expansive honor. After all, he always knew he was “The Greatest” - something he claimed about himself from his earliest days of boxing.

“Muhammad Ali Through The Eyes of the World” is a documentary without a narrator. It basically is hundreds of short clips of interviews of everyone from childhood neighbors, worn trainers, boxing opponents, friends, family, celebrities, etc. All of these are held together and made cohesive with clips from various sports and boxing historians. The number of voices making up the documentary, though, is really fine! About the only one they didn’t salvage a fresh interview from was Ali himself, but given that he suffers from Parkinson’s disease now, that would probably have been fairly difficult.

As most people born before 1985 know, Ali was born Cassius Clay in Louisville, Kentucky. His originate in boxing came from his bicycle being stolen. He told his father that he was going to “woop” whoever it was when he found out who had stolen his bike. His father asked if he knew how to fight and Ali said no, so his father took him to the local boxing ring and thus was born one of the greatest if not THE greatest boxer ever. What he did in the ring was revolutionary for a heavyweight, as he danced around with the agility of a Barishnikov ducking and bobbing and getting in a punch here and there till he finally bested his opponents either by out and out knockout or by TKO. At least this was the case in his early days. This documentary covers all of his fights, and although there was only an average of 10 or 15 seconds of footage of each fight (set for his fight with Spinx where there is only a aloof image), at least there was footage of each and lots of commentary about each fight from various people.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Muhammad Ali - Through the Eyes of the World! Click Here

Ali was mountainous not only for what he did in the ring, of course, but for his behavior in the public sight. He was a showboater and braggadocio, of course, but he backed this up and was a good looser the few times this happened. Nevertheless, more importantly he was outspoken about his absorb political and just beliefs. Most people know that he converted to Islam and changed his name to Muhammad Ali, and subscribed to many of the stances of that organization, at least initially. But what many don’t know is that Ali was outspoken even before this. For example after coming aid from winning the gold metal for boxing in the 1960 Olympics, he through his metal into the Ohio River to allege the racism that was composed blatantly prevalent in his home town.

The documentary does not vexed away from the controversial aspects of some of what made Ali a complex individual, although it definitely puts his flaws in a definite light, as if to fabricate excuses for them. For example, although a wonderfully supportive father, Ali had 4 wives, and apparently quite a few affairs on top of this. While he divorced one wife apparently because she did not want to hide herself in the plot that the Nation of Islam would have proposed (as well wanting to dance, smoke, etc.), Ali was seen escorting original girlfriends on trips while level-headed married. The only family members actually interviewed were one his venerable wives and one of his daughters. Both are very grand towards Ali, and his daughter actually says she’s ecstatic he was so prolific with relationships or she and all her brothers and sisters would not be around.

The documentary is almost two hours long, so has quite a bit of vast footage. Universal presents it in anamorphic widescreen (1.78:1), and transfer is unbelievable - at least as far as the unique interview clips go. Of course earlier footage of fights, interviews, etc. from the ’60’s and 70’s are flawed, but there’s not grand that could have been done about these. The audio is almost primarily dialogue and so the 5.1 Dolby Digital Soundtrack really doesn’t obtain a chance to expose off, but the dialogue is crisp and desirable for what its worth. One would not inquire to study extras on a documentary, but Universal has provided a decent array of bonus material, although each one is fairly itsy-bitsy in length. I actually preferred this after watching the 114-minute documentary! Included is a music video, stills of the artwork of Leroy Nieman who did live work during Ali’s fights, additional interview outtakes, and a very short “featurette” which could have been simply inserted into the documentary itself without seeming out of area. Also there is an Ali Center Promo: The Ali Center is being built in downtown Louisville and will promote learning and striving for excellence in all areas for youth based on Ali’s contain life experiences. Finally, there is “Through the Eyes of the World” which has short clips from the “man-on-the-street” but also some boxing professionals on what Ali means to them. I would have liked somewhat longer clips for these as they were only about 10-20 seconds each, but there are so many (10 countries are represented), that having clips that were grand more than a couple of minutes per country would probably have gotten a bit boring, especially after the fairly long documentary. All these extras and the documentary itself beget a really valid value for even the list brand…, let alone for discounted copies!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Muhammad Ali - Through the Eyes of the World! Click Here

Overall, “Muhammad Ali Through The Eyes of the World” is a very comprehensive documentary. It tells a complete legend of a tremendous figure, both within sports and outside, from so many different perspectives, with so great faded and newer footage, and with so many voices, that you can’t attend to arrive away from it feeling like you’ve really learned a huge deal about Ali, and why he himself as well as so many other collected deem him to be “The Greatest.”

What an outstanding DVD (4.75 stars) -

I was really skeptical at first because the label was so outrageous and I impartial concept this was going to be one of those cheap and poorly save together Muhammad Ali pieces. I set it on my Holiday Wish List and I figured 10 bucks is splendid cheap for a family member and it’s a DVD I want to check out…Maaaan did I glean lucky!

Lots of substantial, fun and rare footage. Some grand interviews and thoughts and memories from some magnificent racy people and a hilarious myth from Billy Crystal in the Special Features piece (the only safe thing about that share otherwise it’s delicate lame)

Great for any Muhammad Ali fan! - The note for this DVD is absolutely outstanding!

Our four year worn daughter has multiple food allergies, some of which are life-threatening. Being a preschooler, she absolutely ADORES Arthur and his friends. Binky is one of her favorites as she, too, is allergic to nuts. I strongly recommend this video to teachers, parents, etc. who desire to better educate non-food allergic children to the challenges their friends face daily. It is also a improbable source of comfort to children who are food allergic as they peep through being entertained that there are other kids (and cartoon/book characters) who are like them. Thank you, Marc Brown, for bringing attention and plan to food allergic children all across our country through Arthur and his pal, Binky!

Personally i deem arthur is the best, secretly educational point to out there - especially for children 3-7. It teaches plan and acceptance of our differences, instead of encouraging making fun of what we don’t understand. Nobody is perfect and that is nothing to be embarrased about.

Fullmetal Alchemist is an improbable series, but one of its greatest achievements, in my mind, is that it managed to not only enjoy its stellar quality over time, it consistently got better and better until it actually damage to watch the series advance to an waste. Seeing all of the residence threads that have been building throughout the whole series coming to fruition is a large payoff, determined, but it’s made all the better by the fact that nothing feels like a cop-out; there wasn’t a single moment where I concept “Oh, these guys were running out of time and so they honest threw that up there.” No, everything flows to a logical, incredibly satisfying and poignantly dejected conclusion. It certainly isn’t a Hollywood-style jubilant ending, but that was never what the series was about in the first site. And even more gratifying than the ending was being able to contemplate befriend on how all of these characters had grown and changed throughout the series: Lust springs to mind first and foremost, having gone from being your stereotypical femme-fatale to a multi-layered, incredibly sympathetic and tragic heroine. And I never, ever opinion I’d be able to empathize with a psychopathic monster like Envy, but the final scenes of episode 50 made me advance really cessation to doing so, even as he… well, I won’t spoil it for you here.

In short, Fullmetal Alchemist is an incredibly well done, superbly captivating and acted prove. The Japanese and English disclose tracks are both equally impressive (one of the RARE few animes in which this has happened, the only other to my knowledge being Samurai Champloo) . And certain, if you’re reading this product description you’re probably going to take this anyway and you’ve seen the series before, but in case you haven’t, honest know that you’re about to contemplate some of the finest episodes of one of the best anime series ever. This world definitely goes out with a bang, and not a whimper.

I purchased the whole series and the movies. The only plight with it is that there weren’t more episodes. It is the perfect blend of suspense, fantasy, adventure, drama, appreciate, sacrifice, dedication, suffering, reward, deception, cruelty, compassion, etc…__I was surprised at the depth of this anime. Even grown ups will like this one.

Just received this DVD today and like Mickey’s Substantial Clubhouse Hunt and Mickey Saves Santa, this one is large and my 2 year faded son loves it. There are two other episodes on the DVD that we have seen on Playhouse Disney. There is the Dr. Daisy episode where Daisy tries to salvage her pretend dr. sticker and there is the Magician Goofy episode where the gang helps Goofy practice his magic tricks for the magic reveal. We’ve seen these several times before but my son smooth loves to behold them. The Halloween episode is cute. I unbiased wish they would release more! If your runt one is a Mickey Mouse lover then he/she will fancy this one as well, there is no doubt!!

To celebrate the upcoming Halloween season, Disney presents its third “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” DVD thus far: the eagerly anticipated “Mickey’s Treat.”

Suffice to say, this DVD is well worth the unique sale trace. In this DVD residence, there are three ‘Mickey’ episodes: the title episode(with the standard 24-minute length), the previously seen “Goofy the Enormous” (Goofy ineptly performs magic tricks with Mickey’s assist), and “Dr. Daisy,” (the gang pretend to have boo-boo’s for pretend Dr. Daisy), with the bonus of a cute “Puny Einsteins” Halloween episode thrown in for added measure. Instead of a music video this time around, there are some kiddie cooking recipes and a CD-ROM interactive feature as the special extras.

In the excellent title episode, Mickey & friends (Donald, Daisy, Minnie, Goofy & Pluto) are in costume for trick-or-treating at which time they are invited to befriend troublesome pal Pete’s party. The episode subsquently shows the gang attempting to arrive in time the decorative Trick-or-Treat Tower for the party before the Tower’s gates lock per the magic Halloween moon (which acts as a clock of sorts) . As usual, Mickey’s mouseketools are needed for their creep, including an funny bit arrive the extinguish where Mickey displays his resourcefulness once again after Pete actually charges them ‘admission’ to his believe party (even though no one else bothers to indicate up) .

Overall, I would rate the title episode as perhaps one of the finest so far in the “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” series, in terms of wit, charm, and the implied message that sharing with others does matter (even at Halloween time) . The other two “Mickey” episodes and the “Dinky Einsteins” Halloween episode are above average. While we would rate “Dr. Daisy” as probably the weakest of the bunch, it is quiet better any time than having to endure an episode of “Spongebob Squarepants.” Further, let’s give Disney some well-deserved credit this time, unlike the previous “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” DVD’s, this DVD actually sticks to a generally consistent theme, and the presented episodes were quiet relatively current.

As parents, if you are not already familiar with “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” we also suggest checking out the regular program first on the Disney Channel to examine if purchasing “Mickey’s Treat” is a colorful choice for your family. Having watched this program regularly with our infant son for more than a year now, our engage on “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” is that it is a solid (and educationally favorable) program for the youngest children to idea, in allotment because it introduces various problem-solving skills (in the effect of ‘mouseketools’) .

Unlike many children’s shows floating around on television, the computer-animated “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse,” despite outward appearances, is not simply mindless entertainment. To its credit, the demonstrate is designed for interactive participation (where the characters ask the viewers for relieve) allowing youngsters to join in on the activities. Now, while the science depicted is not even remotely realistic at times (which the intended audience obviously isn’t going to care about), the show’s upright aim is to gather youngsters to select the simplest concepts like counting numbers, reading alphabet letters, view basic logic, being nice to others, etc. Frankly, considering other potential moving ‘role models’ provided for children today, Mickey Mouse mild remains a definite influence you can trust. “Mickey’s Treat” exemplifies that trust.

At the time of this writing, the sale ticket for the DVD is $14.99, which is an exceptional bargain. Paying chunky sign ($19.99, maybe more someday) for it might require some further concept, we judge. Unexcited, regardless of whatever the effect is, at least with “Mickey’s Treat,” unlike all the other Halloween goodies out there, you won’t have to inconvenience about your kids getting cavities from it.

This is a true story about a relatively unknown event during World War I.

The film was done in the same style as Saving Private Ryan. When action was happening, the cameras were right there. Plenty of detail added to the authenticity. It is especially interesting for anyone that is familiar to the ways in which warfare was fought toward the end of WWI.

Bayonets! Man, I’d hate to have been a soldier at this time…. Some of the scenes are not for the squeamish. The film holds nothing back…

I have seen the film twice in the last three nights. I am still picking up information. In my opinion, the cast did an excellent job of bringing this film to life. Even from the German point of view, this must be a good film. The details in the trenches as well as the “no man’s land”… The weapons used… It all makes for a good film.

It is a definite must for any collector of war films.

In late 1918 WW1 was about to come to an end. The US, now fully involved in the war, participated in an offensive alongside the french in the argonne forest. In typical first world war fassion, the modest gains of the offensive were ultimatley lost as the allied forces simply withdrew back to their trenches. however one battalion comprised mostly of New Yorkers of the US 77th division did not withdraw. Instead they advanced, held, and fought to the bitter end. This is the story of the lost battalion; the 308th.

AE really got this one right. Wonderfully scripted and with lots of attention to historical detail and accuracey, this film really comes off as more than just an AE original, but something worthy of a trip to the theater had it been there. The movie opens with new recruits coming in before the offensive. The fresh troops are indoctrinated quickly into the frightening world of trench warfare. Rick Shroder does an amazing Job as the Major in command of the 308th. Having been a lawyer back in NYC, he has no real taste for battle, and struggles with his supperiors over the danger posed to his men by the over-ambitious objectives given to them.

Once they are in the Argonne forest, and fail to retreat like thier comrads, they become unknowingly surrounded by the Germans. The commanders, amazed that the 308th is sitting right smack in the German center, decides to lie and tell them that the french are still on thier flank, and to hold at all costs. Thus begins a desperate fight for survival, as ammunition and food runs out, and as wave after wave of german counter attacks are repelled.

As the bodies pile up we are given glimpes into the personalities of these brave men. Being mostly NYers, the troops are diverse, with italians, jews, polish, and others all creating an interesting dynamic. The movie shows how an interesting transference occurs as the code of the streets, or neighborhood pride than many NYC kids grow up with, lends itself heroicly to the battlefield, not allowing for honor in surrender. The presence of a southerner thrown into the battalion ads a really interesting dynamic between the characters.

the acting throughout the movie is superb, and special effects are gritty and realistic, not flashy and mainstream. Lots of nice touches are added into this movie to make it a pleasure to watch and a tribute to the courage of the men.

The Germans are unable to understand why this battalion has not withdrawn or surrendered as any normal unit in WW1 would do, when the captured southerner informs them with warning that they are “up against a bunch of New York City Gangsters”. Finally, even the fearsome special unit of German storm troopers are repelled, and only a handfull of the 308th are left when allied forces finally link up with them once more. The loss of the argonne, puts the german line off balance, and contributes to the further advances that end the war.

I enjoyed this movie quite a bit as it shows both the futility of the war, and delves into the character of those fighting it. AE didnt just make a decent war movie, but a great film that easily deserves a place alongside all the hollywood classics of the genre.
